Is there an entry fee?
The Taste of Tasmania festival is completely free to enter with the exception of premium events (New Year’s Eve and the SMEG Culinary Kitchen).

New Year’s Eve
On 31 December we are open and free to enter from 11am – 3pm, ‘greener grass’ on Parliament Lawns will stay open and free until 9.30pm. 

The New Year’s Eve ticketed event is open 6 pm–1 am for New Year’s Eve ticket holders only.  The family fireworks are at 9.30pm, with the main fireworks show at midnight.

There are plenty of options to get you to the festival

Bike Parking and Pram Valet
Available at the Morrison Street entry. Hours of operation from 10.30 am- 8.00 pm except for New Year’s Eve which is 10.30am - 4.00 pm.

Public transport
Located just a 5 minute walk from the Hobart City Bus Interchange in Elizabeth Street, getting a bus is one of the easiest ways to get here.

Thanks to the Motor Accidents Insurance Board, Metro will operate extra late night services in Hobart this NYE. With $2 flat fares (cash only) from 6pm, be a real mate and ensure you and your crew make the right transport choice to get home safely.

New Year’s Eve Nightrider departure points:

  • Eastern and northern suburbs services: special bus stops in Salamanca Place (near the Supreme Court), then via the Hobart City interchange

  • Southern services: Franklin Square, then via Davey Street at the top of Salamanca Place

Parking is available in a range of places close to the festival.

The Regatta Grounds
Open 10 am – midnight (and on New Year’s Eve until 2 am).
It is a 7 minute walk to the festival precinct.

Salamanca Square (lower ground level 4-hour limit)

  • Open:  9.00 am – 12.00 am, Sunday – Friday & 8.00 am – 12.00 am, Saturday

    • 4-hour limit and fees apply Sunday to Friday 9.00 am – 12.00 am.

    • 4-hour limit and fees apply on Saturday 8.00 am – 12.00 am for Salamanca Market and Taste of Tasmania parking.

Dunn Place
Open 24 hours, 7 days.

  • 3-hour time limit and fees apply 8.30 am – 5 pm, 7 days.

  • There is no time limit on parking or fees charged outside these hours.

1 Montpelier Retreat
Open 24 hours, 7 days.

  • Time limit and fees apply 8.00 am – 8.00pm, 7 days.

Uber/Ride-share pick up points
Main pick up location is in front of Customs House on Morrison Street (opposite Brooke Street Pier)
2nd pick up point outside the Retro Cafe on Montpelier Retreat (this is for 28, 30, 1, 2 and 3)
2nd pick up point on Davey Street, just before the turn off to Salamanca Place (for 29th and 31st only)

Getting to Tasmania
As Australia's only island state, access to Tasmania is by air and sea only. Regular flights depart from most capital centres and fly direct to Hobart.

Alternatively many visitors travel to Tasmania from Melbourne by sea on the Spirit of Tasmania. Departing from Melbourne and arriving in Devonport, this has the added benefit of letting you bring your own car and make the most of Tasmania's touring potential.

Will it be open if it’s raining?
Yes, we open rain, hail or shine. We will delay opening or temporarily close in the event of extreme weather. Please see our Facebook page for any changes due to weather.

Tasting plates and affordability
The Taste of Tasmania is a free event, offering free music and entertainment in a number of unique spaces.

This year we have engaged a stallholder curator to work with our stallholders to develop accessible menus that include a range of price points.

Is The Taste of Tasmania a cashless event this year?
No. You can use either cash or your personal EFTPOS debit or credit card to purchase your food and drinks.

If I choose to use cash, where will I find the nearest ATM?
There are ATM’s available within the PW1 Shed and will be clearly signposted. There are also ATMs located in Salamanca Place.

As it’s a licenced site are children welcome?
Yes all children are welcome to festival. Children under 18 need to be accompanied by an adult.

Souvenir Tasting Glass
If you wish to purchase wine you are required to purchase a reusable Taste glass. Feel free to bring along a Taste glass from the past or alternatively souvenir tasting glasses are available to purchase from the gift shop and selected stallholders for $8. This year we also offer limited edition Riedel glasses for $12.

How much seating is there?
There will be a large number of table and bench seats available both inside and outside, and a range of casual seating options throughout site.

Can I bring animals to site?
No. Only trained assistance animals (such as guide dogs) are welcome at the event.

Free drinking water is available at four stations across the festival site – find them on the map and BYO bottle to refill.

Parenting Room & Baby Change Facilities
Will be located on Parliament Lawns and Castray Esplanade.

Box Office
For on-site ticket sales and collection of pre-purchased tickets for the SMEG Culinary Kitchen, Reserved Seating and New Year’s Eve the Box Office the Box Office will be located inside the main entry on Morrison Street.

  • As well as regular on-street and off-street accessible car parks, extra accessible parking will be provided in the Murray Street car park next to Princess Wharf 1. Accessible parking spaces will be managed by a security guard in the car park between 10am and 10pm daily. A five-hour limit applies. Please ensure relevant permits are displayed.

  • A drop-off and pick-up area will be available at the Morrison Street entrance Sunday to Friday and the silo end of Castray Esplanade every day.

  • Trained assistance animals (such as guide dogs) are welcome on the buses and at event.

  • Carers are welcome free of charge to all Taste of Tasmania ticketed activities, including New Year’s Eve celebrations.

  • There will be specific tables and chairs available to assist patrons with limited mobility and wheelchairs; tables will be noted on site maps and clearly signed on table tops.

  • For information at the event, please see staff at the Information Booth located in the PW1 forecourt.

  • A wheelchair for loan is available from the Information Booth for people with mobility concerns.

  • First aid providers are located in the forecourt of PW1 for minor medical issues; for emergencies call 000.

  • An MLAK key is available from our Information Booth for people wishing to use the fully accessible change facilities in Salamanca Square.


Enjoy the sights, sounds, flavours, action and colour of Australia's best outdoor market—proudly operated by the City of Hobart in Salamanca Place on the waterfront between Davey Street and Runnymede Street every Saturday from 8.30 am to 3.00 pm.

  • Trained assistance animals (such as guide dogs) are welcome on the Salamanca Shuttle and at Salamanca Market.

  • For information when you are at the market, please see the staff at the information booth located on the corner of Morrison Street and Salamanca Place.

  • Wheelchairs may be loaned through the information booth for use at Salamanca Market.

  • An MLAK key is available from the Salamanca Market information booth for people wishing to use the fully accessible change facilities in Salamanca Square.
