New Year’s Eve at The Taste of Tasmania

The Taste of Tasmania is proud to present Hobart’s best New Year’s Eve Party – a special night featuring the island’s sensational food and beverages, captivating entertainment and the best view of the midnight fireworks you’ll find on the waterfront.

This year we join forces with the Save the Tasmanian Devil Appeal to bring you a party with a conscience! With a percentage of all ticket sales donated to this cause, your great night out will also help to fund vital research into a cure for the disease currently ravaging the island’s Devil population.

Are you an angel, or would you prefer to dance with the devil? Start planning your costume now and you could be in the running for spot prizes, or the prize for the best-dressed party-goer!

Street performers and roving entertainers will combine with new Hobart reggae/funk ensemble Lively Up and other fantastic local acts, including James Parry, Mocane and Grim Fawkner, as well as DJs Nick Corney and Rikin. You’ll also get a taste of what’s to come at midnight when the early session of fireworks light up the skies at 9.30pm.

Up next is Nicky Bomba’s Bustamento, a tropical-flavoured, body-moving six-piece playing the upbeat rhythms of the Caribbean.

Our special guest has the voice of an angel, but perhaps the devil is more her style? Whichever persona she adopts, Kate Ceberano’s vivacious energy and special blend of pop, jazz and soul will light up the stage and demonstrate why she has become one of Australia’s most respected performers.

Tempted? Get your friends together, be an angel (or a devil) and join us for one hell of a party at this year’s Taste of Tasmania.

She’s been Australia’s high priestess of pop, an award winning jazz singer, wears the hat of a fine artistic director, and above all that: Kate Ceberano is a songwriter with the talent to take a tune to the top of the charts.

Kate first found fame with her funk band I’m Talking in the early 80s, and by the end of that decade had earned a formidable reputation for her soul, jazz and pop repertoire. She received ARIA awards for best female artist in 1988 and 1989 and for the highest selling single in 1989 for ‘Bedroom Eyes’.

The 90s brought more success, including the role of Mary in Jesus Christ Superstar and platinum status for her song ‘Pash’.

This year she released the Kate Ceberano Anthology, her 24th album in a career that has spanned 30 years, making her the most prolific Australian female recording artist of this era.

In June, Kate was awarded an Order of Australia for charitable work and services to the music industry.

“Kate is the best … do yourself a favour!”
Molly Meldrum

“Truly one of the great voices this country has produced. Kate sings with such passion, heart and joy it is impossible not to be completely carried to wherever she wants you to go!!!! Not only an amazing singer but an extraordinary performer – Kate’s singing simply melts your heart.”
Hugh Jackman

“Pure, soulful and powerful.”
Rolling Stone magazine

“Australian music royalty.”
Richard Wilkins

Jamaican Reggae booty sway with a hot Trinidad sauce.

Mexican love songs sprinkled with Middle Eastern desert dust.

Tropical palm swayin’ musical droplets in the key of reflection.

Parisian tap dancin’ flurries with a cheetah at your heels.
